Suddenly I Remembered…

April 23, 2019

In an earlier post (Jerry’s Journey) I forgot to add something that suddenly occurred to me in the midst of the services for Jerry yesterday.   It was:

“What humans leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but rather what is woven into the lives of others.”

Given the essence of what the three representatives of three major faiths said yesterday, the quotation from Pericles during his funeral oration for those ancient Athenians who had fallen during the Peloponnesian War, during which he also extolled the virtues of Athenian democracy, seemed entirely appropriate.

Thank you for quoting Pericles….brings to mind the stories people shared at our Memorial gathering for our Alan last year as well as what was woven into so many lives of people who reached out to us in our losses throughout past years.
